SANITARIAN

Sanitarians promote the environmental and public health through the enforcement of County sanitary code, State and Federal regulations by providing education to the public regarding environmental health programs and regulations and by providing inspection and technical assistance services for water and wastewater systems. Saline County has agreements to provide services with Ottawa, Lincoln and Ellsworth counties as part of the Local Environmental Protection Program (LEPP). This position requires extensive knowledge of public health and environmental science. Employees may be required to provide occasional weekend and/or evening work and report during public health emergencies as needed.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  1. Must have a valid Driver’s License and must provide own transportation.

  2. Must have a High School diploma or the equivalent.

  3. Must be a graduate of accredited four (4) year college with a degree in biological or physical sciences or related field with 30 hours or more of science.

  4. Two (2) years experience in an environmental or scientific field preferred.

  5. Registered Sanitarian/Registered Environmental Health Specialist (RS/REHS) preferred.

  6. Lead Based Pain Inspector, Lead Hazard Risk Assessor and Elevated Blood Lead Level Investigator preferred.

  7. Must demonstrate good written and oral communication skills.

  8. Must have an ability to maintain a professional demeanor.

  9. Must have basic knowledge of Excel, Word and other PC software.

  10. Must be flexible and have the ability to adapt to varying tasks.
