Distinguishing Features of the Class:
The fundamental reason this classification exists is to provide logistical support to the Liberal Police Department. Employees within this class are assigned a full range of duties performed in inventory management, computerized data entry, assisting in fleet maintenance, Motor Vehicle Enforcement Inspections and the required documentation of such. Employees must be able to act without immediate supervision and exercise independent judgement in meeting emergencies.
Essential Functions
Enters and retrieves data from a terminal, PC or other keyboard device;
Demonstrates continuous effort to improve operations, decrease turnaround times, streamline work processes, and work cooperatively and jointly to provide quality seamless customer service.
Maintain current inventory of all police department equipment.
Perform Motor Vehicle Enforcement Inspections.
Assist with Liberal Police Department Fleet Maintenance.
Required Knowledge, Sills and Abilities:
City of Liberal Personnel Rules/Policies, Administrative Regulations, departmental policies, General Orders and Special Orders.
Enhanced knowledge of police equipment and supplies
Current technology of police related equipment and supplies.
Records management inventory system (ie: Spillman)
All applicable state law in regards to Motor Vehicle Enforcement Inspections.
Completion of all required paperwork in regards to Motor Vehicle Inspections.
Resources in the City of Liberal available to perform essential fleet maintenance operations.
Basic computer operations and data entry. (ie: email, excel, MS Word, or similar software)
Ability to:
Communicate in the English language by phone, police radio system, or in person in a group or one-to-one setting.
Evaluate a situation, make effective decisions, and take appropriate action.
Produce written documents in the English language with clearly organized thoughts using proper sentence construction, punctuation, and grammar.
Work cooperatively and courteously with all segments of the public.
Work cooperatively and courteously with all segments and departments of the city.
Recognize and control sources of personal stress in order to perform job requirements.
Properly care and handling of firearms and related police equipment.
Comprehend and make inferences from material written in English language and learn job-related material through observation, structured lecture or oral instruction. This learning takes place in an on-the-job training or classroom setting.
Remain in a standing or sitting position for extended periods of time
Maintain moral integrity.
Work in a variety of weather conditions with exposure to the elements.
Work safely without presenting a direct threat to self or others.
How to dispose of Department Equipment in accordance with state statutes and City Policy.
Ability to lift and/or move heavy objects (25lbs or more)
Visual ability sufficient to operate a police vehicle both by day and night.
Hearing ability sufficient to understand radio transmissions, conversation with other individuals both in person and over a telephone.
Maintain a current inventory of all Police Department Equipment in Spillman.
Maintain a current inventory of all issued equipment for each employee of the Police Department.
Maintain the Liberal Police Department vehicle fleet in operation status.
Assist in the cleaning and care of the Liberal Police Department fleet vehicles.
Prepare proper paperwork required by the LPD to seek approval for purchase of equipment or repair to fleet vehicles.
Maintain updated files on fleet vehicles.
Additional Requirements:
Attend two week vehicle inspections training class. (City will provide)
This classification requires the use of the City vehicles on City business. Individual must be physically capable of operating the vehicles safely, possess a valid Kansas Driver’s license and have an acceptable driving record.
Must be 18 years of age.
Must successfully complete LPD hiring process.
Must have a high school diploma or GED.
Must be a resident of Seward County, Kansas.
Some positions will require the performance of other essential functions, depending upon work location, assignment or shift.
