BUILDING INSPECTOR
The City of Park City is growing, with significant new residential, commercial, and development activity taking place throughout the community. As new businesses, neighborhoods, and major development projects continue to move forward, the City is experiencing an increased need for building inspections and code compliance services. To support this continued growth and ensure that construction projects are inspected efficiently and consistently, the City of Park City is adding a Full-Time Building Inspector to our team. This is an excellent opportunity to join the City at an exciting time of development and play an important role in helping shape the community as it grows. Under the direct supervision of the Chief Building Official, this position performs inspections and related duties to ensure construction projects comply with applicable building codes, ordinances, and regulations.
PRIMARY DUTIES
• Conduct building inspections for residential and commercial construction projects.
• Review construction plans, drawings, and specifications for compliance with applicable codes and regulations.
• Inspect construction at various stages to verify compliance with approved plans and applicable building codes.
• Identify code violations and communicate required corrections to contractors, property owners, and the public.
• Maintain accurate inspection records, reports, and documentation.
• Respond to questions regarding building codes, permits, inspection requirements, and construction practices.
• Work closely with contractors, property owners, architects, engineers, and other City departments.
• Assist with permit and code-related activities as assigned by the Chief Building Official.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES
• Knowledge of building construction methods, materials, practices, and terminology.
• Knowledge of applicable building codes, ordinances, regulations, and inspection procedures.
• Ability to read and interpret construction plans, blueprints, specifications, and technical documents.
• Ability to recognize construction deficiencies and determine appropriate corrective action.
• Ability to explain code requirements clearly and professionally to contractors, property owners, and the public.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to maintain accurate records and prepare clear inspection reports.
• Ability to organize and prioritize multiple inspections, requests, and assignments.
• Ability to work independently, exercise sound judgment, and make decisions within established guidelines.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with contractors, coworkers, City officials, and the public.
• Ability to remain professional and courteous when addressing code violations or resolving disagreements.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Two or more years of experience in building construction, inspection, code enforcement, or a closely related field preferred.
• A combination of education, training, and experience that provides the knowledge and abilities necessary to successfully perform the duties of the position will be considered.
• Experience with residential and/or commercial construction is preferred.
• Experience interpreting building codes, construction plans, blueprints, or technical specifications is preferred.
• ICC certification in one or more applicable inspection disciplines is preferred, or the ability to obtain required certifications within an established timeframe.
• Valid driver's license required.
• Must pass a background check and pre-employment physical.
