Job Summary
Responsible for assisting and preparing the annual department budget and directing and evaluating street maintenance and repairs for the City of McPherson.
Job Competencies and Essential Job Functions
• Assists in planning, prioritizing, and coordinating daily activities related to street, alley, storm sewer, and traffic control operations
• Provides direct oversight and support to Crew Leaders, ensuring work is completed safely, efficiently, and to standards
• Leads crews or projects as needed and participates in complex maintenance and repair work
• Inspects work sites and ongoing projects to ensure quality, safety compliance, and proper use of materials and equipment
• Assists in scheduling work, assigning personnel, and monitoring progress of projects and daily operations
• Supports snow removal, ice control, storm response, and emergency operations
• Responds to citizen inquiries, concerns, and complaints in a professional manner
• Assists with tracking labor, materials, and equipment usage and maintaining daily activity reports
• Supports procurement of materials and coordination of resources for projects
• Assists in the development and implementation of training and cross-training programs for staff
• Reinforces and enforces safety procedures, departmental policies, and regulatory compliance
• Assists with employee supervision including coaching, performance evaluations, and disciplinary recommendations
• Participates in budget support activities including tracking and providing input on operational needs
• Coordinates and inspects contracted work and assists with traffic control planning for projects and events
• Performs other duties as assigned

• Maintains confidentiality of sensitive information (oral, written, or electronic)
• Consistent and reliable attendance is required; employees must report to work regularly, on time, and in accordance with their assigned schedule
Position Requirements and Qualifications
Education / Experience requirements:
• High school diploma or equivalent
• Continuing education in related field
• Five years of similar or related experience
• Two years of supervisory experience
Licenses / Certifications:
• Valid Kansas Class B Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) within six months of hire and maintain a good driving record
