Position Summary:
The City of Maize is seeking a qualified and motivated Utilities Supervisor to oversee the operation, maintenance, and regulatory compliance of the City’s drinking water and wastewater systems. This leadership position performs both supervisory and administrative duties while ensuring safe, efficient, and uninterrupted utility services for the community.

The ideal candidate will possess strong technical expertise, leadership ability, sound judgment, and a high level of integrity. Regular and reliable attendance is essential.

Responsibilities:

60% Administration & Supervision
- Direct and coordinate the technical and administrative activities of the Water and Wastewater Utilities Systems to ensure safe, efficient, compliant, and continuous operations.
- Plan and coordinate projects, maintenance programs, and other activities.
- Ensure all federal, state, and local regulatory requirements are accurately and timely met.
- Recommend and/or oversee procurement of utility equipment and supplies.
- Work effectively with a variety of staff, other governmental representatives, and the public; deal tactfully and courteously with the public and maintain composure in difficult and stressful situations.
- Assist in preparation for, response to, and recovery from the impacts of a wide variety of disasters or emergency situations.
- Perform employee performance evaluations.
- Promote the goodwill of the City and a positive work culture at all times.

40% Operations & Maintenance
- Troubleshoot and perform maintenance on related equipment or machinery.
- Perform and interpret laboratory procedures and results.
- Oversee and direct city staff in Water and Wastewater activities.
- Oversee and/or perform daily operations of the Water and Wastewater systems.
- Train employees in water and wastewater operations.
- Troubleshoot and resolve simple to complex issues.
- Ensure best safety practices are being met and utilized by subordinate staff.
- Perform other tasks as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Education:
- High School diploma or GED required.
- College coursework or technical training in water, wastewater, utilities, or related field preferred.

Certifications:
- Class III Wastewater and Class III Water Certification.
- Must possess and maintain a valid Kansas driver's license.

Experience:
- Minimum of five (5) years of experience in Municipal Water and Wastewater.
- Previous supervisory experience preferred.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Strong knowledge of water and wastewater treatment systems, operations, and maintenance.
- Ability to supervise staff, manage operations, and prioritize workloads.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office and related software.
- Ability to read and interpret electronic work orders, manuals, and technical documents.
- Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to maintain accurate records with a high degree of integrity.
- Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
- Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.

Physical Requirements / Work Environment:
This position requires regular physical labor, including lifting, carrying, bending, kneeling, climbing, and operating equipment. Work may include entering confined spaces such as manholes and frequent exposure to weather, hazardous conditions, and emergency situations.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 90 pounds.
- Must be available for on-call duty, overtime, and emergency response.
- Must maintain punctuality and dependable attendance.
