QUALIFICATIONS
Job Summary
This position is directly responsible for the administrative and supervisory work required to plan, organize, staff and coordinate all City of Andover cultural and entertainment activities.
Starting pay ranges from $23 - $25/hr DOQ
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF WORK
- Plans and organizes City events including but not limited to: Greater Andover Days and Hometown Christmas by leading the event committees consisting of City staff and community partners.
- Continuously looks for opportunities to expand and/or introduce new cultural and entertainment programs
- Manages contracts and negotiates agreements for cultural and entertainment programs and events
- Works closely with the Parks and Recreation Manager and Public Information Officer on event sponsorship, marketing, and facility logistics and usage.
- Establishes and maintains relationships with external vendors and community partners
- Maintains relationships with other City departments and Capitol Federal Amphitheater® management team to coordinate logistics of events.
- Coordinates and trains volunteers necessary to provide event support.
- Provides Staff support to various boards, committees, and commissions, including but not limited to: Convention & Visitors Bureau, City Council, and the Parks & Recreation Advisory Board
- Participates in the development of various annual budgets related to culture and entertainment
- Performs other duties as required
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES
- Knowledge of contract management, marketing and public relations, facility management, event planning, capital improvement project development, project management, risk managements and grant writing
- Knowledge of principles and practices associated with arts, entertainment, culture and budget/financial management
- Skills in sponsorship development and fundraising activities
- Ability to multitask, meet deadlines and work efficiently under pressure with a careful attention to detail
- Ability to communicate effectively as to express ideas concisely and persuasively, both orally and in writing
- Ability to manage within the budget process, monitor expenditures and stay within operational and project budgets
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree in Entertainment Management, Business Administration, Fine/Performing Arts, Public Relations, Marketing, Public Administration, Hospitality or related field, required
- Two years experience in event planning, preferred
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Some bending, stooping, reaching, and kneeling required in conducting duties related to event set up.
- Occasional lifting of items such as tables, chairs, equipment or supplies up to 30 lbs.
- Must be able to stand for extended periods and sit at a desk up to 50% of the day where interruptions prevail
- Work takes place both indoors and outdoors with outdoor weather conditions likely presenting discomfort.
